Original US Army Pathfinder Patch | Vietnam Era | NOS
Description
The symbol of those who were "First In" to the jungle.
-
Pathfinder Symbolism: The winged torch represents the elite Army Pathfinders. During the Vietnam War, these specialists were tasked with inserting into hostile territory ahead of main forces to establish and navigate landing zones (LZs) for helicopter assaults.
-
Subdued Design: This is the subdued cloth version of the badge meant for combat wear. During the Vietnam conflict, the US Army transitioned to these low-visibility designs to prevent colorful insignia from giving away a soldier's position.
-
Placement: By regulation, this patch was worn on the pocket of the combat jacket. However, it was also widely popular to sew these onto headgear in the field.
-
Condition: Mint New Old Stock (NOS). The reverse side still features the excess, uncut white backing fabric from the factory, proving it has never been issued or sewn onto a uniform.
