Original I Field Force Patch (Vietnam) | Subdued Twill | Cut-Edge
Description
The symbol of the corps that directed the fight in the treacherous Central Highlands.
-
Unit History: Activated in 1966 and headquartered in Nha Trang, I Field Force commanded all US operations in the critical II Corps Tactical Zone (the Central Highlands). Units operating under I FFV included the 4th Infantry Division, 1st Cavalry Division, and the 173rd Airborne Brigade during some of the war's fiercest battles.
-
Design: The shield-shaped patch features a vertical sword piercing a diagonal bend. The sword symbolizes military strength, while the diagonal band honors traditional cavalry lineage. The subdued OD and black colors provided essential camouflage in the jungle.
-
Construction (Twill & Cut-Edge): This patch is a beautiful example of early Vietnam-era manufacturing. Rather than being fully embroidered, the design is stitched directly onto a sturdy olive drab twill fabric base. It features a period-correct "cut-edge." The reverse reveals exposed white bobbin threads and completely lacks any plastic or glue backing—the ultimate proof of authentic 1960s US production.
-
Condition: Perfect New Old Stock (NOS). Never sewn onto a uniform.
