Original Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB) | Full Color Metal | V-21 (Vanguard)
Description
The mark of the infantry, crafted for the dress uniform.
-
History & Usage: While subdued versions were worn in the jungle, this bright silver and "Infantry Blue" enamel version was worn proudly on the Class A dress uniform by soldiers who had engaged in active ground combat.
-
V-21 Hallmark: The back of the badge features the "V-21" stamp. Introduced in 1965 by the US Army Institute of Heraldry, alphanumeric hallmarks tracked manufacturers. V-21 is the official code for Vanguard. This guarantees the badge is a period-correct piece from the late 60s to 70s.
-
Design & Condition: The 1st Award CIB features a Springfield M1795 musket resting on a blue enamel field, surrounded by a silver oak wreath. Fastened with dual clutch-back pins. This is a used, issued piece; it shows a wonderful, natural patina on the metal finish that only comes from actual wear and age.
