Original 101st Airborne Division Patch (Screaming Eagles) | Subdued | Cut-Edge
Description
The iconic screaming eagle, crafted the old-school way.
-
Unit History: The 101st Airborne Division is one of the most highly decorated units in the US Army. During the Vietnam War, the "Screaming Eagles" fought in some of the most intense engagements of the conflict, including the infamous Battle of Hamburger Hill (Ap Bia Mountain).
-
Design: The patch consists of a black shield featuring the head of a bald eagle in olive drab, topped with a separate matching "AIRBORNE" tab. This subdued coloring was introduced to eliminate the sniper-attracting bright colors of the older patches.
-
Cut-Edge Dating: The construction is a textbook example of Vietnam War manufacturing. It features a period-correct "cut-edge" rather than the thick, post-war "merrowed" border. Furthermore, the reverse reveals exposed bobbin threads with no plastic or glue sealant, guaranteeing its authenticity and age.
-
