Description

A distinctive award for bravery equivalent to the Soldier's Medal.

  • Criteria: Awarded to any member of the Armed Forces of the United States or of a friendly nation who, while serving in any capacity with the United States Air Force, distinguished himself or herself by a heroic act, usually at the voluntary risk of his or her life, but not involving actual combat.

  • Design: The obverse depicts Hermes representing the Air Force, releasing an American Bald Eagle. The reverse features a stylized laurel wreath enclosing the inscription "FOR VALOR".

  • Mounting: Features a period-correct crimp brooch pin assembly typical of the 1960s/70s manufacture.

  • Condition: Excellent vintage condition.

This is the tactical subdued version (OD/Black) featuring a classic flat "cut-edge" border. The lack of a merrowed edge and the unsealed reverse confirm it as a 100% authentic, US-made piece produced during the conflict (late 1960s). Mint, unissued condition.

Withington, a pilot with the 191st Assault Helicopter Company (AHC). The distinctive "Yosemite Sam" patch identifies him as a member of the elite "Bounty Hunters" Gunship Platoon. The suit retains the original leather nametag and the manufacture label dated 4 April 1966.
