USGI M16A1 Buttstock (Early Type D) | No Trapdoor | Vietnam Era | Original
Description
A holy grail for Retro Rifle builders: The original Early M16A1 Buttstock (Type D). This is the scarce version featuring a solid rubber buttpad without the trapdoor for a cleaning kit. These stocks were standard issue on the XM16E1 and early production M16A1 rifles during the height of the Vietnam War (approx. 1964–1969).
The stock is made from the correct fiber-reinforced polymer (Fiberite) and exhibits the desirable "mottled" appearancecharacteristic of early Colt furniture. Finding these in good condition is difficult as they were prone to cracking; this specific piece is in solid used condition with NO cracks or structural damage. Includes the original swiveling sling loop.
