Original US Army 1st Cavalry Patch | Cut Edge | Vietnam War
Description
The symbol of the unit that pioneered airmobile combat in Vietnam.
-
The First Team History: The 1st Cav was famous for utilizing helicopters for rapid troop deployment in Vietnam, most notably at the Battle of Ia Drang. Their massive yellow shield patch with a horse head is the largest divisional patch in the US Army.
-
Cut Edge Detail: This patch features a raw, flat cut edge, definitively dating it to the earlier stages of the Vietnam conflict (pre-1968) before merrowed (overlocked) edges were widely adopted to prevent fraying.
-
Condition & Construction: Fully embroidered. It has been lightly used; the front embroidery is bright and intact, and the reverse shows the classic white and yellow bobbin thread typical of US-manufactured patches of the era.
-
Placement: Traditionally worn on the left shoulder of combat and dress uniforms.
