Original US Army II Field Force Patch (Vietnam) | Subdued | Cut-Edge
Description
The symbol worn by the headquarters that directed the fight in the Mekong Delta.
-
Unit History: Activated in 1966, II Field Force, Vietnam (II FFV) became the largest US Army corps deployed in combat during the Cold War. It controlled all US military operations in the critical III Corps Tactical Zone, protecting the capital city of Saigon.
-
Symbology: The shield-shaped patch features a large, stylized sword (gladius) that morphs into a massive arrowhead, symbolizing striking power and defense. The subdued black and olive drab coloring replaced the bright, full-color version for tactical camouflage in the jungle.
-
Cut-Edge Dating: The construction of this patch is key for collectors. It does not have the thick, modern "merrowed" border. It features a period-correct "cut-edge" and an untreated reverse with visible threads, lacking the plastic or glue backing found on later patches. This guarantees its authenticity as US-made production from the late 60s/early 70s.
