Original 5th Special Forces Group Beret Flash | Early Pattern (Cut Edge) | NOS
Description
The origins of the legendary Green Berets in one piece of insignia.
-
5th SFG History: Officially activated in 1961, the 5th Group's original beret flash was simply black with a white border. It wasn't until their heavy involvement in Southeast Asia (around 1964) that the RVN flag stripes were added across the center. This piece represents the very dawn of the unit's legendary history.
-
Early Manufacturing (Cut Edge): This flash features a raw, flat cut edge, verifying its production in the late 1950s to early 1960s. The reverse side clearly shows the white bobbin stitching typical of that era's US manufacturing.
-
Condition: Mint New Old Stock (NOS). Never sewn to a beret. You can even see minor un-trimmed threads and backing fabric along the top edge from the factory cutting process.
