Rare WWII USN Experimental Flak Vest | DORON Plates | General Doriot Prototype | Mint
Description
The missing link in the evolution of modern body armor.
-
Context: Unlike the US Army's preference for manganese steel, the Navy and Marines pushed for lighter, non-metallic solutions. This resulted in DORON, a glass-reinforced plastic laminate named after General Georges F. Doriot.
-
The Armor: The vest features internal pockets housing the original rigid Doron plates (identifiable by their distinct amber/orange color). These plates were cutting-edge tech in 1944/45.
-
Design: Sleeveless green cotton construction with 13-star metal tack buttons. The segmented pocket design allows for flexibility.
