USN M1 Helmet – Iwo Jima "Gas Paint" Camo – Schlueter – MP / Red Liner

  • 1 of 37

A multi-layered piece of Pacific Theater history: US Navy M1 Helmet featuring a rare Schlueter shell (marked with "S"). The exterior displays a distinct black and "chemical yellow" camouflage pattern often associated with Iwo Jima. The authenticity is confirmed by the visible "ghosting" where the chinstrap masked the paint during application. The Firestone liner reveals a dual life: originally painted Red for Damage/Fire Control, then repurposed as White for MP/Shore Patrol duty.

From the decks of a warship to shore duty.

  • The Shell: Front Seam, Swivel Bale. The "S" stamp confirms production by Schlueter, which produced far fewer helmets than McCord.

  • The Camo: The use of yellow/green primer or gas detection paint mixed with black is a hallmark of USN landing parties.

  • The Liner: Marked with the Firestone "F". The peeling white paint exposes the bright red layer underneath, telling the story of the sailor's changing roles.
