A "Holy Grail" item for advanced USMC collectors. This is the early pattern heavy rubberized poncho, issued to Marines during the initial stages of the Pacific War (Guadalcanal campaign).

  • Provenance: Defines early war production with a crisp stencil: "Marathon Rubber Products Co. - January 20, 1942 - U.S.M.C.". Finding a survivor with such clear markings is exceptional.

  • Condition: Visually good but stiff. As is common with 80+ year old rubberized fabric, the material has lost its flexibility and is stiff/hardened. It is best suited for static display. There are stains from use and one snap fastener is missing/pulled out.

Technical Specs:

  • Item: Poncho, Rubberized, OD

  • Maker: Marathon Rubber Products Co.

  • Date: Jan 20, 1942

  • Condition: Vintage, stiff material, 1 missing snap.
