Rare 1942 "Aussie Made" USMC Uniform Set | Vandegrift Jacket, Trousers, Cap | 1st MarDiv
Description
The uniform that tells the story of the Melbourne R&R after the hell of Guadalcanal.
-
"Aussie Made" History: Due to severe supply shortages from the US mainland, the military contracted Australian textile mills to clothe the Marines. The short jacket, influenced by the British/Australian Battle Dress, became highly popular among Marines, including General Vandegrift.
-
Jacket/Blouse: A heavy forest green wool jacket featuring patch pockets and a waist belt with a metal slider. The sleeves bear original red-on-green Corporal chevrons. The Australian contract label is clearly marked "MADE IN AUSTRALIA, 1942". Fits approximately like a size Small.
-
Trousers: An unbelievable find. The trousers are unissued (NOS) with the original tag intact reading: Size 16, Waist 34, Height 5-8. They feature suspender buttons and the classic white Australian "Regimental No. / Name" label.
-
Garrison Cap: A beautifully preserved cap adorned with an original bronze EGA (Eagle, Globe, and Anchor) pin. The label is crisp: "S. 145, 1942, MADE IN AUSTRALIA, SIZE 7 1/4".
-
Condition: The jacket and cap are in very good, lightly used condition with an honest patina. The trousers are mint and unissued. The wool is strong and shows no obvious moth damage.
