Original US WWI 1911 Magazine Pouch (Field Modification) | LCC&CO 1918
Description
The authentic core of military history – field repair.
-
Identification & History: This is a standard World War I era magazine pouch. The reverse features perfectly preserved and highly legible maker markings:
L.C.C. & CO. 1918. Manufactured in 1918, this pouch was likely re-issued and heavily used in World War II (especially common in the Pacific Theatre). -
Unique Modification: The standout feature is the improvised, hand-sewn reinforcement. A soldier, finding the top edges of the pouch fraying under the weight of heavy magazines, added a custom field repair. A band of coarse, contrasting white/natural canvas was sewn around the mouth of the pouch using visible, hand-stitched light thread. This addition gives the pouch an unmatched, personalized look and proves its active service history.
-
Condition: The pouch is in beautiful, "salty" condition with a deep patina, wear on the canvas, and light corrosion on the hardware, all expected from genuine field duty. Both "Lift-the-Dot" snaps function perfectly. The hand-sewn modification remains solid and tight. The back belt loop is secure.
-
Collector Value: This isn't just another US surplus pouch. It's a "named-to-battle-modification" piece that carried a soldier's magazines through a war, and he had to fix it himself. This type of "battle-repaired" or "theater-modified" gear is highly sought after by collectors worldwide for its unmatched authenticity.
