The 1st pattern airborne drop case was engineered during the late 1950s and early 1960s to equip the elite 22nd Airborne Brigade and reconnaissance detachments of the Czechoslovak People's Army (ČSLA) following the adoption of the 7.62x39mm Sa vz. 58 V folding-stock assault rifle. The case secured the folded weapon rigidly to the paratrooper's torso and parachute rigging, preventing weapon snags during aircraft exit and protecting the rifle mechanism from ground impact.

Historical Context and 1st Pattern Characteristics Among Warsaw Pact airborne collectors, this early 1st pattern represents the most durable and meticulously tailored variation. Later production models from the 1970s and 1980s were simplified, reducing the extensive leather reinforcement caps found on this initial variant.

Specific Details, Features, and Condition

  • Materials & Build: Formed from heavy-duty olive-drab cotton duck canvas with reinforced structural stitching throughout.

  • Leather Reinforcements: Both the muzzle end and upper receiver/stock opening are encased in thick brown cattle hide caps, preventing sharp metal firearm edges from tearing the fabric during jumps.

  • Quick-Release Closure: Features a longitudinal closure flap secured by four heavy-duty metal press studs (snap fasteners) allowing the paratrooper to rapidly draw the weapon immediately upon landing.

  • Harness Attachment: The reverse side incorporates heavy cotton webbing tie-down straps anchored through a steel D-ring for secure integration with the parachute harness.

  • Condition: Authentic issued military condition. Canvas fabric and structural seams remain strong, leather retains good suppleness, and all snap fasteners operate firmly with an attractive service patina.
