US Experimental XM249 SAW Ammo Bag | Nylon & Cotton | Trial Gear | Rare
Description
A true unicorn for collectors of US field gear and the SAW program. This is an Experimental XM249 Ammunition Bag, dating back to the developmental trials of the Squad Automatic Weapon in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
This item represents a distinct "transitional" era in military manufacturing. It features a unique hybrid construction: the bag itself is made of green nylon, while the heavy-duty shoulder strap is crafted from cotton canvas. Furthermore, the hardware is a mix of standard black metal buckles (typical of the ALICE era) and early experimentation with plastic hardware on the lower attachment points. Items with these specific "XM" features were produced in very limited numbers for field testing and are incredibly difficult to find today.
