Original French Paratrooper Badge (Brevet Parachutiste) | DRAGO PARIS
Description
The legendary badge of the Foreign Legion and Colonial Paras.
-
History & Design: The "Brevet Parachutiste" was officially adopted in 1946. The iconic design features a deployed parachute, wings, an oak wreath, and a star. This badge was proudly worn by elite units such as the Colonial Parachute Battalions (BPC) and the famed Foreign Legion Parachute Regiments (REP) during the fierce battles of Indochina (like Dien Bien Phu) and later in Algeria.
-
Maker DRAGO PARIS: The reverse side is clearly hallmarked on the wings by the legendary military jeweler: "DRAGO" and "PARIS".
-
Unnumbered Version: This specific piece lacks an engraved graduation number on the reverse cartouche. Unnumbered badges were officially approved replacements that paratroopers bought with their own money if they lost their issued badge or wanted a spare for a different uniform.
-
Condition & Mounting: The back features a robust, horizontal pin-back catch, typical of mid-century French production. The badge is clearly field-worn; the silver wash has rubbed off on the high points of the chute and wings, giving it an unmatched authentic "salty" look.
