The authentic NVA Kappmesser, essentially a specialized Shroud Cutter / Hook Knife. Distinct from combat knives, this tool was strictly designed for emergency self-rescue. Its primary purpose was to cut through parachute webbing or lines in critical scenarios, such as a tree landing (Baumlandung) or entanglement. Offered in pristine NOS (New Old Stock) condition.

Description

A vital piece of Cold War survival gear.

  • Purpose: Defined as a rescue tool to "cut harness or lines". It allowed the paratrooper to free themselves if left hanging in vegetation or dragging.

  • Design: Features a safety blade configuration (often hooked) to slice through nylon webbing under tension without injuring the user.

  • Condition: Unissued. Never used, retaining its factory sharpness and finish.

  • Origin: East German (DDR) Military Surplus.
