A true Cold War icon and a must-have for camouflage collectors! Up for sale is an original West German Border Guard (Bundesgrenzschutz - BGS) field jacket in the highly sought-after Sumpfmuster (marsh/swamp) camouflage pattern. Fascinatingly, the cut of this jacket is a direct copy of the legendary US Army M-1951 field jacket. This is a vintage, used item displaying a beautiful, salty patina from honest service. Size is approximately a US Medium Regular.

American design meets historic German camouflage.

  • The Camouflage: The BGS famously adopted the Sumpfmuster pattern during the early Cold War, a design directly descended from WWII Wehrmacht patterns, making it highly prized among collectors today.

  • M51 Inspiration: The West Germans loved the utility of the American M51 jacket and copied it. This jacket features four large front pockets, an internal waist drawstring, and reinforced elbow and shoulder areas. It even features a metal D-ring on the back for attaching gear.

  • Material: Constructed from very heavy, durable cotton canvas meant to withstand harsh border patrol duties.

  • Condition: Used / Vintage Surplus. The jacket has a fantastic "salty" look. It shows overall fading, wear, and some small white stains/paint drops, giving it an incredible authentic character. Structurally solid.
