Original US Army Ordnance Corps Patch (WWI) | 1915-1919
Description
pristine survivor from the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF).
-
Symbolism: The "Shell and Flame" (or Flaming Bomb) is the historic insignia of the US Army Ordnance Corps. Soldiers wearing this specialty mark were responsible for the supply, maintenance, and development of weapons and ammunition.
-
WWI Construction: The base material is an olive drab wool/cotton blend featuring a distinct heavy diagonal ribbing (twill). The embroidery of the bomb and flames is thick and highly detailed.
-
Proof of Authenticity: The reverse side features the classic "cheesecloth" or buckram backing. This white mesh was used as a stabilizer during the embroidery process and is the gold standard identifier for authentic WWI-era US patches.
