US Army 11th ACR Black Beret | Fulda Gap Era | Leather & Felt Flash | Theater Made
Description
A true piece of Cold War history from the guardians of the Fulda Gap. Before the black beret became standard issue, US Armor units in Germany adopted them locally.
-
Theater Made Flash: This insignia is a prime example of local German craftsmanship. Unlike standard embroidery, it is a multi-piece construction: the red section is felt/wool, and the white diagonal is dyed leather. The leather shows heavy crazing and cracking, a hallmark of genuine age-dried leather, contrasting with the matted texture of the felt.
-
Condition: "Salty" / Heavily Used. The wool shows wear, and the flash has significant patina. The leather sweatband shows sweat staining consistent with long-term wear.
