A piece of Cold War era airborne history. This is the Recondo (Reconnaissance Commando) Patch specifically for the 82nd Airborne Division.

The Recondo school was designed to train soldiers in long-range reconnaissance, patrolling, and survival skills. Graduates of the 82nd's specific course were authorized to wear this arrowhead-shaped patch on the breast pocket of their field uniforms. Construction: This is the Subdued version, featuring the "AA" logo and arrowhead border embroidered in black on an olive drab twill base. This style aligns with the post-Vietnam / BDU era uniforms. The reverse side shows standard white bobbin threading.

Unlike the more common embroidered tapes, this is the highly sought-after printed version. This quick and cheap manufacturing method was used right after the Army authorized subdued insignia in 1966. What makes this pouch highly collectible is the unique internal design: individual retention flaps for each magazine, a feature dropped in later LC-1 pouches. This exact model is famously associated with the US Marines guarding the Saigon embassy in 1975. Unissued, New Old Stock (NOS) condition. Includes two metal ALICE clips.
