An authentic, early-production U.S. Marine Corps 3rd Marine Division Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI) badge. Features the classic and iconic red shield background with a blue caltrop. The smooth, unmarked back strongly suggests WWII or Korean War era manufacturing. This piece features a neat period modification: the original safety-pin clasp was removed and replaced with a modern post for a clutch-back. A great piece of Marine Corps history with true character.

Description

A classic USMC badge that tells a story of continued use.

  • The Design: Displays the famous red shield background with a dark blue caltrop, a white center triangle, and the Roman numeral "III". The front enamel remains in great condition.

  • The Modification & Era: The flat reverse lacks any alphanumeric hallmarks or maker marks, pointing to an earlier (1940s-1950s) origin. It clearly shows where the original horizontal safety-pin hinge and catch were removed, with a post (for a clutch-back) glued or soldered to the center—a common field or veteran modification.

  • Condition: Vintage / Modified. Beautiful front display, messy historical repair on the back.
